The GRECOM GRE PSR-800 pre-programmed digital scanner represents another step forward in this new era of scanner design. For experienced scanner users the PSR-800 is certainly radical. There’s no keypad, but rather a set of buttons reminiscent of an MP3 music player. For scanner novices or even experienced users who will be traveling and don’t wish to program the scanner for every city they’re visiting, the PSR-800 is a great option. The radio is about the exact size of a deck of playing cards a
greatest radio ever!!!,
I have been listening to police scanners for the past 35 years. What a pleasure this scanner is. The things I like about it include:
1) fairly compact size
2) nice solid build
3) easy to operate, even for a non-techie like myself
4) great sound quality
5) I love the fact that it charges via mini-USB port
6) has a great readout on the screen which can be edited either manually or via the computer interface
7) I live in the Los Angeles area and its great to be able to pick up LAPD on their digital APCO 25 system
8) very nice sensitivity
9) all of the frequencies and trunking systems are built in. Previous radios that I owned were very difficult to program (including my most recent Uniden 246t).
Areas for improvement:
1) a bit heavy on the battery use, I’d estimate I get 8-10 hours use out of some fully charged batteries (just ordered the Sanyo Eneloop 2000 maH batteries with separate charger)
2) the stock antenna is okay, I switched over to a Watson W-889 which works noticeably better for most of the communications that I listen to ranging from 460-860 mhz

What A Great Scanner,
This scanner is solidly built and couldn’t be easier to program with the included software. With the attached belt clip you don’t need an optional carrying case
This is my first handheld scanner and GRE scanner. Compared to Uniden base/mobile scanners the sound is tinny and background noise is much louder. If it were not for this I would have given a 5 star rating.
Am looking forward to a GRE base/mobile unit with the same advanced technology and ease of use. I’m guessing the larger speaker will take care of my sound complaints.
UPDATE: I mostly listen to an analog, simulcast, 800MHZ trunked system. I went to a 800MHZ antenna and audio has greatly improved.

LCD Screen Scratches Way Too Easily,
Great scanner but the LCD screen scratches way too easily. That’s not good. Even just wiping it with a soft cloth will scratch it up badly. I use now a quality microfiber optic cloth to keep the scanner clean of fingerprints, smudges, and it doesn’t scratch the LCD screen. I’m still looking around for some kind of screen protector for it, and a carrying case, too. Those are a must have.
I wish the LCD were made of Gorilla Glass. I would pay more for that instead.
