Batteries That Don’t Leak Or Corrode

Batteries that don’t leak. Do they exist? I’m talking about the common AA and AAA size batteries. The answer is yes they do exist. And it’s important, especially for your expensive or critical gear.

How many of you have experienced batteries that eventually leak or corrode while inserted in your various devices? It may ruin the device itself!

No one wants to experience battery compartment damage, especially when considering “mission critical” devices.

Energizer Max (Batteries That Don’t Leak)

I purchase the following 24-packs on amzn:

>> Energizer Max AA
>> Energizer MAX AAA

A few friends of the blog wrote the following:

“Energizer batteries are definitely one of the best, had been using Duracell batteries and they are OK, but will still leak in certain situations.”

“Every ruined electronic device I’ve had, had one thing in common…. Duracell batteries leaking. I was, at first, angry at myself for not checking the batteries more often, until I had some Duracell’s start leaking less than 2 months after installation. I use Energizers exclusively now for non-rechargeable use.”

My own experience has been similar. Not every battery leaks from other brands. You might get by without a leak for awhile. But then all it takes is one battery seal to start oozing – and you risk damaging the device. My Energizer Max batteries have never leaked.

Tip: Remove the batteries if it’s not going to be used for a long time.

No Leaks Guarantee

Energizer claims a “No Leaks Guarantee”. I have been purchasing these batteries for years. No problems whatsoever.

“Even as battery technology has evolved, battery leaks are still a problem today. Many brands of batteries can still corrode and damage devices after being fully used.

Energizer batteries are different. Our batteries are designed to prevent damaging leaks or we will replace your device.”

That’s quite a statement!

Do Lithium Batteries Leak?

From the manufacturer:

Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ Batteries are GUARANTEED NOT TO LEAK. Due to advanced technology, Ultimate lithium™ batteries will not leak under normal consumer usage.

I purchase the following specific lithium batteries for use in some of my mission critical devices. Why? Partly because lithium batteries are much better when it comes to COLD WEATHER tolerance. They perform better in those conditions.

Energizer Guarantee

On their website (at the time of this post) they state the following:

Energizer will repair or replace, at our option, any device damaged by leakage from Energizer MAX® Alkaline batteries either during the life of the battery or within two years following the full use of the battery.”

Why Do Some Batteries Leak?

The ‘white fluff’ that fills in around the battery compartment terminals. It comes from leaking alkaline batteries and their insulating seals at the end of the battery, or the outer metal canister, or both. More detailed description in the linked article below..

Tip: You can use vinegar or lemon juice to clean up the mess — the white fluff on the battery terminals. I’ve used a cotton swab soaked with this solution. Sometimes however the terminals may be so corroded that you just can’t fix it…

Do Rechargeable Batteries Leak?

I use eneloop rechargeable batteries for some of my devices around here. I have some EBL brand too, which have also performed well after many years in service.

They HAVE NOT LEAKED. Rechargeable batteries are a good long-term prep item to have, along with solar charging capability. I wrote about them in the following article:
