Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM R45 Multi-Host Suppressor. Last week we got some trigger time with the HUXWRX VENTUM 762. This week we get an initial look at the Dead Air Mohave 9 – a modular, multi-caliber suppressor with an innovative baffle geometry. Is this your next lightweight suppressor? Let’s get started.
SILENCER SATURDAY 300: Introducing the Dead Air Mohave 9
This will be a short introduction to the Mohave 9 since it has only been on the ground for about 36 hours here at TFBCOM North. We’ll get a range report next week in the second part of the review.
In my opinion, he Mohave 9 boasts three key features: a sub 10 ounce weight, short/long modularity, and most importantly, a unique baffle design created with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), also known as 3D printing. The “twisted star” shaped baffles have a textured surface and what appears to be some alternate gas flow routes. I am looking forward to hearing how quite it can get with subsonic ammo.
Dead Air has a lot of history with unique designs that actually perform, like the Odessa-9 segmented pistol suppressor. With a sub one-inch diameter I was sure performance would suffer, but it actually sounds as good as some full-size pistol silencers. So I have high expectations for the Mohave 9.
The use manual for the Mohave 9 isn’t available online yet, but I don’t believe the baffles can be removed for cleaning. It looks like the DMLS process attaches the baffles directly to the tube. The rest of the suppressor fully disassembles, including the forward section and end cap.

The Mojave 9 pushes the boundaries of performance, finally allowing you to have the benefits of low blow-back AND supreme acoustic signature reduction. This is achieved by the all-new Triskelion™ baffle system that promotes continuous, yet efficient flow of gases. This leads to a less toxic, lower recoil, and overall more enjoyable shooting experience. In short… it’s a breath of fresh air.
The two-piece modular design lets you prioritize peak levels of sound reduction or a lower size and weight, making it more versatile to fit your specific needs.
The Triskelion baffle design is made possible by DMLS additive manufacturing. It has opened the door for pushing the limits of performance through enhanced baffle geometries. Something not previously achievable through traditional manufacturing processes.
That’s all we have for today’s quick look. I’ll be out on the range tomorrow to give you a full range report on the Mohave 9.
Have a great week. Be safe, have fun, and we’ll see you back here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday.
