This is a great single point sling for a light carbine with an attachment point at the castle nut.

If you understand the “philosophy of use” Magpul has some awesome products, and this is definitely one of them.

I had the Ms2 sling and recently upgraded to the Ms3. The main difference is the attachment points. In the Ms2 the single point attachment was a quick release design that under heavy use could be a little too quick to release. In the Ms3 both attachment points are of the claw variety with lock switches on the sides. Additionally, they do not swivel anymore. Most metal is replaced by heavy duty polymer. This makes the whole sling lay flat, eliminates rattle, and keeps the rifle very secure. The webbing is 1 1/4″, compared to the 1″ webbing on the Ms2. The new polymer d-ring, close to the single point attachment, is now 2.5 times bigger allowing much better articulation.

This is an extremely well thought out design, that makes for a reliable single to double point sling. It is clean and simple, with everything you need and nothing you don’t.

    Keeping my MS2, March 18, 2012

First let me start off by saying I am a big fan of Magpul. In my opinion they have a proven track record for thoughtful and innovative products. I purchased the MS2 sling and eagerly awaited the release of the updated MS3. The MS series of slings by Magpul allow the user to transition between 1 and 2 point sling operation smoothly. In a real world application the user can go from patrol mode (2 point position/weapon slung on shoulder) to engagement mode (1 point position) in a matter of seconds without losing sight of the threat. When used with a Magpul ASAP the user can also switch between right and left handed shooting around corners in CQB scenarios. I am a tactical shooter and the combination of the MS2 and ASAP are very useful for my needs. However, the MS2 was not perfect and had several shortcomings (1″ sling width cut into body parts, webbing was slick and would not stay put when tugged on, and the webbing tended to snag and fray). The MS3 corrects all of these issues. The wider 1-1/4″ sling width results in less felt pressure. The webbing is textured and will not loosen easily when tugged on. The webbing is also woven similar to seatbelt denier and is less likely to snag or fray. THE FATAL FAULT OF THE MS3 AND THE REASON WHY I RATED IT 2-STARS IS AS FOLLOWS. In high stress situations our fine motor skills go out the door. Basically anything requiring finger tip touch dexterity is very difficult to achieve. If you don’t believe me try unlocking your car door when a zombie is chasing you. The hardware clip of the MS3 no longer has a 360 degree rotating swivel and is so small it requires you to depress it with the tips of your fingers. If you use the pads of your fingers it will not open enough to release the clip. With gloves on it is impossible. The mouth of the clip measures 1/4″ tall and 1/4″ deep. Your target is a D ring with a circumference of 7/32″. That is a tolerance of only 1/32″!!! The MS3 is also better suited with the Magpul RSA sling attachment and will not easily work with a QD swivel attached to the front rail. The mouth of the MS2 hardware clip is 9/32″ tall and 7/16″ deep, and a D ring with a circumference of 3/16″. The MS2 clip also has a tongue extension that helps guide the D ring into the mouth of the clip. The MS3 may suit your needs but until I can become as proficient with the MS3 as I am with the MS2, it will stay on the shelf or possibly sold on eBay.

Yes! It is THAT GOOD. Read a ton of reviews of how good this thing is and was sceptical….It really is very very nice! Love the clasps, very well designed and easy to operate. (read 1 reviewer that said they were difficult if you don’t use the very tip of your finger but worked fine for me however I squeezed it) I really don’t see how it could cost enough to make to be selling for so much. Maybe research and development, but it’s still less than a great many of the others and worth every penny!
