Adventurer Bear Grylls heads back into the wild for the 5th season of Man vs Wild where he tackles extreme survival challenges in some of the most inhospitable places on earth. Bear goes from the extremes of Eastern Europe’s frozen mountains to the searing humidity –and crocodile filled landscape — of Northern Australia’s Arnhem Land. A little dissapointed……..,
I’ll start by saying that I absolutely love Bear Grylls and Man vs. Wild. I watch Seasons 1-4 constantly on Netflix and could not wait for Season 5 to be released on dvd. So immediately upon receiving it I opened it up and looked at the cover, then I flipped it over and checked out the back and noticed that it was only 8 episodes. Then I read the episode titles and realized that 2 of the 8 were Behind the Scenes and another was “Fan vs. Wild”.
I watched the first disc rather quickly (it’s only 4 episodes) and enjoyed it very much. Next was disc 2 which starts off with the “Canadian Rockies” episode where the crew uses machines to create situations for Bear so that he can demonstrate things you need to do to survive if you were in a similar predicament. The next episode is “Shooting Survival” basically a behind the scenes, followed by “Fan vs. Wild” and finally “Behind the Wild” (another behind the scenes). So if you are looking for classic Man vs. Wild episodes then you will only get about 3 episodes of that (all on the first disc) and the second disc actually contains no traditional Man vs. Wild type episodes.
Just an fyi on how many episodes each season has.
Season 1 – 15 Episodes
Season 2 – 13 Episodes
Season 3 – 10 Episodes
Season 4 – 11 Episodes
Season 5 – 8 Episodes

Dissapointed,
I ordered this as I enjoy waching Bear Grylls in action. I was dissapointed to find out that “watching” was what I would have to do….no soundtrack on disc two. This is the third time I’ve bought Season Five and its the same problem….not so much fun watching subtitles!

informative,
Bear is always informative and fun to watch. In this season he revisits some of his previous adventures with commentary.
