A very GOOD water reservoir,
This review is based on my experience with the product that was shipped to me. With that said, I have had absolutely zero problems with leakage, disassembling, or function. I only state this at first because many reviews are negative about the product.
PROS
I purchased the 3 L model because it was cheaper and it has the potential to hold more water for longer hikes. when my wife and I go hiking, I like the option of only filling it half way for short hikes and completely full for longer hikes.
It is extremely easy to clean because of its wide mouth
There is a magnetic hold for the mouthpiece that you can attach to your should strap. At first, I was not sold on this feature, but it has proven to be an amazing little feature.
It can be turned on/off with a valve in addition to having to bite the mouthpiece
Perhaps the best feature is that there is a frame to it. Most reservoirs that I’ve used in the past have been floppy plastic bags that slosh around on hikes. It is annoying and affects the weighting. With this model, the reservoir retains its shape regardless of the amount of water. This is crucial for weight distribution and comfort while hiking.
The molded handle and two loops allow for easy maneuverability in and out of the day pack (I have an Osprey Stratos 34)
CONS
The large mouth is a bit tricky for one reason, and I can understand how some people would think their reservoir would leak. If you ever had a plastic water bottle like Nalgene, you can see how the cap is attached to the water bottle. There is a plastic ring that sits on the male end of the threads. At times, this ring will rise up the threads, thus preventing you from completely screwing down the lid. As long as the ring sits beneath the threads, the cap screws on securely and tightly.
The other non-essential con is that the water inside the tube becomes warm while hiking. Its not a bid deal until you seek a cool drink of water and realize that the sun has been beating on the clear tube. Therefore, your first sip is warm. After 2-3 seconds, you finally get the cool water in the reservoir.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone seeking a reservoir for their day pack. I’ve had a few and this is by far the best design!

|Seriously Flawed,
There is a VERY SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW with this hydration bladder! These bladders do not hold up and leak through the stitching that attaches the bladder to it’s plastic support framework. Stitching through the bladder is a bad idea from the start and the fact that I’m on my 3rd bladder in as many months validates that. I was so enamored by this pack the first couple of days I had it that I recommended it to two of my buddies. One of them is also on his third bladder the other is on his second.
The buddy of mine that is also on his third bladder received the last one directly from Osprey, who claimed it was one of the latest batch that did not have this issue.

|You’ve got to be kidding me!,
Filled first time and started to leak. Fiddled around to make sure nothing obvious was present. Still leaked. Just like another reviewer said. It appears to leak through the stitching. Knew some other reviews talked about this issue but most reviews were great. Thought I would try it. After I saw it leak, I decided to contact Osprey directly to let them know how greatly I didn’t appreciate this.
Get this. On their website, under customer service, there is a separate button to click that says: HydraForm Reservoir Warranty Claim. Makes you wonder. It requires a variety of fields to be filled out. I was okay with the items Date Code on Reservoir, Resevoir Volume, Location and Date of Purchase, Brief description of the issues but then came the clincher. I tried to submit but it told me I had one more required field to complete. I had to provide a photo of the issue! What? Are you kidding me? A company has an apparent known issue with a product defect and they inconvenience the buyer by requiring them to provide a picture. Do they think everyone has the technology and know-how to do this? Talk about an inconvenience. I’m totally astounded.
I know Osprey has excellent backpacks (I own one) and I’m sure other reviewers are correct in terms of how great a product this is but it certainly makes you wonder if they had a problem with one of the manufacturing runs. Hopefully, you’ll be fortunate and get one that wasn’t manufactured at the time they were making defective ones. Shame on you, Osprey!
