I bought this Bivy for a flip-flop hike of the New York Bear Mountain section of the A.T. I was expecting mild weather with possible rain, having done this section before. Previously I went with a tarp/trekking pole shelter and closed cell foam pad/fleece sleeping bag liner setup. With this setup my sleep system (fleece liner) got a little wet but really it’s the wind that gets you. You know the wind I’m talking about! That 4 am howling wind that makes you feel like you’re sleeping naked in a treetop. Armed with that knowledge, I bought this beauty. Waterproof, windproof and VERY breathable. GoreTex is amazing. My sleep system for this last late-August hike was this Bivy, a fleece throw you can buy at wal-mart for 5 or 8 bucks and a grommeted poncho that i staked out in a mini lean-to with my cheapo wal-mart trekking poles. My pack went under the lean-to and doubled as my pillow, the fleece blanket and my tired, sore body went into the bivy, my head and upper body protected from rain and whatnot. You can sit up and cook, repack, read etc, and only your (waterproof) legs stick out. I used a mosquito headnet so I could keep the hood of the bivy open, but closing the hood would keep a good deal of those jerks out. So, im summation, if you like a minimal yet very modular sleep setup, stop wasting time and buy this bivy. Also it’s very light and stuffs to about the size of football.

I just used this bivy sack on a back country camping trip in the mountains of western VA. There was about 6 inches of snow on the ground and I laid my bivy right on top of it. No moisture got through the entire 3 days I was there. It also rained some, and you could see the rain just bead right off the bivy. It is 100{660353129f8d892044c993645a1c75194301fec6786a7f617c15adde0b0011e9} waterproof, rolls up to a decent size to strap on to the bottom of your pack, and I didn’t have any problems with the zipper. Best bang for the buck!

The bivy cover was received in only a few days and in new condition. These covers are great! I used them when I was active duty and couldn’t wait to get my hands on one that I didn’t have to turn back in after an assignment.
